In the UK, British Gas is planning to offer free energy to homeowners on Saturdays.
The company has proposed new tariff follows pressure from the government to ensure customers are getting the best deal.
It is hoped the plan will encourage people to use power-hungry devices like washing machines and tumble driers at the weekend, when demand for electricity from businesses is much lower.
A small trial is underway at the moment.
