UK train travellers hit by fire alert

Evening rush-hour travellers in the UK faced delays getting away for the bank holiday weekend after a fire alert led to the evacuation of a major railway station.

Large crowds built up outside King’s Cross main line station in London as police and firefighters arrived.

After a closure of around 40 minutes the station reopened but commuters faced continuing hold-ups.

There were also evening delays out of London’s Paddington station after a person was hit by a train near Twyford in Berkshire, while passengers travelling to and from London Liverpool Street station faced hold-ups due to a signalling problem.
