A man has been arrested in England over the abduction of a six-year-old girl there.

The youngster was taken by a man, possibly in a large dark-coloured car, from Nairne Street in Burnley, Lancashire, at about 4pm on Thursday.

It is believed she was dropped off 30 minutes later three miles away in Whitefield Street, Hapton, where she was found and returned home before police were called.

A 33-year-old man from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and is in custody, police said.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanne McHugh said: “We need anyone who may have witnessed a black coloured car in the Nairne Street or Whitefield Street areas around the time of the abduction to contact us.

“Similarly, if anyone knows anything about this incident at all, please call us on 101.”

Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
