A convicted child rapist who fled the UK has been detained in Brazil after three years on the run.
Antonio Pedro De Olivera Alves was sentenced to 11 years in prison after raping a 12-year-old girl in January 2012.
The 44-year-old Portuguese national, formerly of Aneurin Bevan Place, Rugeley, was convicted in his absence at Stafford Crown Court in June 2013.
Alves pretended to be a teenage boy prior to raping the girl and a European Arrest Warrant was issued upon his conviction, Staffordshire Police said.
The force added Alves was arrested earlier this month after its officers worked with the UK National Crime Agency and Brazilian authorities.
He will be remanded into custody in Brazil while the country's Supreme Court rules on his extradition to the UK, the force said.
