A 40-year-old man has stabbed students and teachers with a knife at a school in central China, killing two people and injuring four before jumping to his death, officials said.

The attack took place this morning at the Dongfang primary school in Chengguan, a town in Hubei province.

The man jumped to his death from a fourth-floor window after the attack, a local official said.

An investigation into the incident is under way. No further details were immediately available.

China has suffered a series of attacks on nurseries and schools, and the culprits often are identified as mentally ill or as being angry at society.
