The volume of retail sales decreased by 1.7% in June 2014 when compared the previous month, according to official figures released today.

The volume of retail sales decreased by 1.7% in June 2014 when compared the previous month, according to official figures released today.

May 2014 saw was an increase of 4.8% in the annual figure.

If Motor Trades are excluded, there was no change in the volume of retail sales in June 2014 when compared with May 2014 and there was an increase of 3.6% in the annual figure.

The sectors with the largest month-on-month volume increases were Other Retail Sales (+10.4%), Hardware, Paints & Glass (+4.1%) and Pharmaceuticals, Medical & Cosmetic Articles (+2.6%).

The sectors with the largest monthly decreases were Bars (-4.4%), Furniture and Lighting (-4.1%) and Motor Trades (-3.8%).

There was a decrease of 0.3% in the value of retail sales in June 2014 when compared with May 2014 and there was an annual increase of 3.3% when compared with June 2013.

If Motor Trades are excluded, there was a monthly increase of 0.1% in the value of retail sales and an annual increase of 2.1%.
