Irish Rail workers set to strike

SIPTU workers at Irish Rail have confirmed they are to go on strike next month.

The one-day work stoppage will take place on Monday, August 25.

The strike is in response to the company's decision to implement cost saving measures, including temporary pay cuts, as recommended by the Labour Court.

The National Bus and Rail Union, which also rejected the pay cuts, says it will now ballot its members on industrial action - up to and including strike action.

The result of that ballot will be revealed next Friday.
