Gardaí issue warning over iTunes gift card scam

Gardaí are warning about a scam tricking people into buying iTunes gift cards.

Two people fell victim to the scam in Wicklow and Tipperary and were conned into buying over €1,000 worth of the vouchers.

Another victim in Galway was scammed out of €2,200.

The scam involves people being told they owe money and in some cases they are told they are facing criminal charges.

They are then ordered to buy iTunes vouchers to pay off the debt.

Gardaí are warning people not to trust anyone claiming to represent a company and to be suspicious of voicemails from people they do not know.

No company will request payment via iTunes or any other online vouchers. If you receive a call like this, end the call and contact Gardaí.
