Syrian refugees returning to Croke Park for Roscommon-Mayo replay

A bus-load of Syrian refugees who made the trip to Croke Park for last week's Roscommon and Mayo match will return for the replay on Monday.

The group, who live on the border between the two counties in Ballaghaderreen, attracted publicity when it emerged they could not agree about who to support.

They have been given free tickets for the game by the GAA and their transport is being paid for by the website Joe.ie.

Volunteer Elaine Mernagh works with the group and says many of them have already shown an interest in Irish sports.

"They're not going to be here and hiding behind their doors. They want to get out and about and the kids want to meet other kids. They want to go on and continue to live their lives. It's a great ice-breaker."
