Tempers flare at the Gaelic Grounds - and that's just the fans

Kerry beat Mayo in a titanic match at the Gaelic Grounds today, emerging 3-16 to 3-13 victors after half an hour of extra time.

The closing stages of the game were marred by a couple of meleés near the Kerry goalmouth - or 'shemozzles' as the technical goes - which saw yellow cards for Kerry's Anthony Maher and Kieran Donaghy as well as a red for Mayo's Cillian O'Connor.

It all got a bit much for one Mayo fan, who had to be dragged from the pitch by no less than five - count em! - stewards (with a young lady who appears to be known to him doing her best to calm the situation).

The unidentifed gentleman did not escape the attention of Twitter users…

All's well that ends well though, so that's alright.

Meanwhile, in a second incident a young Mayo fan who appeared keen to confront referee Cormac Reilly for a discussion on the finer points of the GAA rule book was taught a short, sharp lesson by a burly member of An Garda Síochána.

Gardaí have issued a description of the culprit, who is described as having a red face and a green arse (to match his jersey, wahey!).
