Gardaí say they have breathalysed more than 1,600 drivers over the long weekend so far as part of Operation Surround, targeting drink-driving during the Bank Holiday.

Gardaí say they have breathalysed over 1,600 drivers over the long weekend so far as part of Operation Surround, targeting drink-driving during the Bank Holiday.

They said only nine people tested have been over the limit.

Last year, over 124 drivers were arrested for “driving under the influence" over the course of the long weekend.
