A young man has been killed after a crash in Cavan yesterday evening.

A young man has been killed after a crash in Cavan yesterday evening.

The 18-year-old was fatally injured when the car he was a front seat passenger in collided with a ditch on the R188 Road near Ballyhaise at approximately 5.25pm yesterday. There was no other car involved.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Cavan General Hospital. The driver and rear seat passenger were also taken to Cavan General Hospital with injuries described as minor.

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating. This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Cavan garda station on 049-4368800, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
