A man has died in Bandon, Co Cork, after a wall collapsed on him.

A man has died in Bandon, Co Cork, after a wall collapsed on him.

Gardaí said a 72-year-old man was out walking this afternoon when, at approximately 3.30pm, a wall at St Patrick's Quay in Bandon collapsed on top of him.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

Gardaí said the Health and Safety Authority had been notified, and the cause of the collapse was not immediately apparent.
