An Irish scientist is studying the possible link between calcium deposits and breast cancer.

Dr Maria Morgan, based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, has been awarded a grant of More than €125,000 for her work.

She will investigate whether microcalcifications encourage the growth of breast tumours.

Breast cancer is Ireland’s most common cancer in women, with nearly 2,800 new cases diagnosed every year.
