Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have begun separate investigations after a 72-year-old man was killed when a wall collapsed on him in Co. Cork yesterday afternoon.

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority have begun separate investigations after a 72-year-old man was killed when a wall collapsed on him in Co. Cork yesterday afternoon.

The man was in the back garden of his home in Bandon when the accident happened at around 4pm.

Construction work was being undertaken in an adjacent property at the time of the incident.

The emergency services and gardai were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a local GP.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
