Mourinho: I'm winning for Madrid

Jose Mourinho insists his personal future is not his priority as he seeks to mastermind Real Madrid’s 10th European Cup and his third Champions League title.

The Portuguese has been linked with a return to Chelsea, mentioned as a possible successor to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United and tipped for the Manchester City job currently occupied by Roberto Mancini, amid suggestions he will leave Madrid at the end of the season.

“I never base my decisions on whether I win or not,” Mourinho said in The Sun.

“I work at the top level every day thinking only about the club and never worried about myself.”

Mourinho’s personal stock has always been high since winning the Champions League with Porto, with the 2004 win followed by his successful stint at Stamford Bridge and another memorable period at Inter Milan, which included his second Champions League title.

Mourinho showed humility after Real Madrid dumped Manchester United out of the competition to advance to the quarter-finals, where they will be among the favourites with domestic rivals Barcelona.

“Maybe you can understand why I’m not over the moon because we won at Old Trafford,” added Mourinho, whose season at the Bernabeu has been marred by disagreements with senior players.

“It was, of course, an important win and I know we can go on from here to win the Champions League.

“But I also know we can be out in the next round because the Champions League is full of good teams.

“So I am calm and I am cool.”
