A man in his 60s remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning following a two-car collision in Co. Carlow yesterday.

It happened shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon, when a car and jeep were involved in a head-on collision on the N80 close to Ballon in Co. Carlow.

A man in his 40s who was a passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where a post mortem is due to be carried out later today.

Three other people were also hospitalised: a woman in her 60s, who was in the jeep, and two men aged in their 20s and 40s who had been travelling in the car.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to contact Carlow Garda station.
