A 50-year-old man has been killed in a collision on the M1 motorway in Dublin.

A 50-year-old man has been killed in a collision on the M1 motorway in Dublin.

The man was cycling on the southbound carriageway of the motorway near Swords in Co Dublin at about 5pm on Sunday when he was struck, between the junctions for Donabate and Swords.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital and pronounced dead late in the evening. The coroner has been notified.

The occupants of the vehicle were uninjured, and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

The motorway was closed for a short time to allow emergency access to the scene, but has since reopened.
