Seamus Heaney's life and work is being celebrated in a new cultural centre in Co Derry.

The permanent exhibition, called HomePlace, is located in his home place Bellaghy - which he often wrote about and returned to.

The centre features a replica of his Dublin attic study, a performance area and library space.

Actor Stephen Rea will perform a reading tomorrow as part of the opening festival and there are cultural events taking place until Monday.

Centre Manager Brian McCormick said: "Visitors are afforded an opportunity to come in and find out more about the people and places that meant so much to him."
