Motorcycle garda injured as 20 officers give chase to stolen van in Cork

A motorcycle Garda has been injured in the course of a high-speed chase of a stolen van in Cork.

Over 20 officers were involved in the operation which was sparked when officers spotted a van that had been stolen yesterday and which they believed was later used in a burglary in the Glanmire area.

Gardaí signalled the driver to stop but the van drove on. At one point, the van drove on the wrong side of the N20 dual carriageway between Cork city and Mallow before gardaí boxed him in.

One man was arrested at the scene, while another man who is believed to be the driver of the vehicle, fled the scene on foot.

A search operation is underway.

A garda came off his motoribike during the operation. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Billy Magill photographer and journalist was at the scene and told Red FM what he saw.

"I thought at the start they were escorting the white van, but they were in fact chasing it," he said.
