Today 'the last of the very hot days'

Today is likely to be the last of the very hot days across the country.

Met Éireann says that temperatures are expected to reach the mid-to-high 20s later, which is warmer than in some parts of the Mediterranean.

Temperatures of 21C have already been recorded at the Phoenix Park in Dublin.

"It'll be OK early tomorrow morning, but today is going to be the last of the very hot days," said Joanna Donnelly from Met Éireann.

When asked about the outlook for temperatures next week, she said: "They're not particularly low, they're around normal for the time of year, but that's up to around 20C so we'll get some sunshine.

"It won't be a bad week at all, and it might be a bit of a relief to those who are suffering from the heat."
