Virus rules Cisse out of Magpies' Europa tie

Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse is out of tomorrow night’s Europa League clash with Anzhi Makhachkala with a virus.

The Senegal international was unable to travel after seeing a doctor this morning and was left behind along with midfielder Jonas Gutierrez, who has a knee problem which manager Alan Pardew does not want to risk on the artificial pitch at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

Injured duo Tim Krul and Fabricio Coloccini and the ineligible Mathieu Debuchy and Yoan Gouffran were also left behind, but winger Hatem Ben Arfa, who has not played since tearing a hamstring during the 2-1 Barclays Premier League defeat at Fulham on December 10, was on the plane.

Squad: Rob Elliot, Jak Alnwick, Danny Simpson, Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, James Perch, Cheick Tiote, Gael Bigirimana, Yohan Cabaye, Vurnon Anita, Hatem Ben Arfa, Dan Gosling, Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Moussa Sissoko, Shola Ameobi, Adam Campbell.
