Everton players scaling new heights in pre-season according to Coleman

Republic of Ireland and Everton full back Seamus Coleman enjoyed some rather different pre-season training this week.

Coleman, the Toffees player of last season, is in Austria with Roberto Martinez’s men as they prepare for the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Pre-season is usually taken up with long, tiring runs and seemingly endless sprints, but the Spanish boss decided to take his side to an adventure centre last Friday.

Players donned protective gear and scaled tall trees as part of their day out with Coleman, speaking in a video released today, unimpressed by his showing.

“It was quite scary to say the least, but it was good craic and we all enjoyed it. I didn’t too well myself.”

Everton meet Tranmere Rovers in a friendly tonight and will be buoyed by the news that Republic of Ireland midfielder Darron Gibson is set to return to action in the game.

Gibson suffered serious cruciate knee ligament damage last October in Ireland’s World Cup Qualifier with Kazakhstan at the Aviva Stadium and is only now returning to full fitness.

“Darron Gibson is fully fit and he looks a refreshed, regenerated player. He's been training in an impressive way and I would expect him to be involved with the squad,” Martinez told the Everton website.

Coleman for his part has just signed a new contract with the club on the blue side of Liverpool and is happy to be getting a good pre-season under his belt.

“So far it's been a good pre-season and, though it has been tough, that's what pre-season's all about. I won't complain because we had good weather in Austria last week and we're all really lucky to do what we do.”

“We're all looking forward to getting going now,” added the Ireland star.
