Call for scrambler bikes to be seized for being used in public parks

There are calls to clamp down on the use of scrambler bikes in public parks in Finglas.

The Chairperson of the Finglas South Combined Residents Association is asking for the laws to be changed to give the Gardaí more power.

Martin Hoey said the bikes are affecting everyday life for people in the area.

Mr Hoey said: "We see scramblers in our parks, we see them actually going up and down the main road and the footpaths.

"We have incidents every day where these lads show off, they go up and down on one wheel on main roads, in front of cars, buses and they intimidate people going around on their daily business."

He also said the bikes are causing havoc in Tolka Valley Park.

He said: "There's a playground there and the bikes are going up and down all day long and children cannot use it. Now, if the guards come down to take the bikes, they can't chase them, they can hopefully catch them at the exit, but even when they bring them to the station the parents of those lads come down and claim the bike back for them.

"Those bikes should be seized once they've been used in an improper manner."
