Daly steps down as Dublin boss after six years in charge

Anthony Daly has stepped down as down as Dublin senior hurling manager after six years in charge.

Dublin county board issued a statement confirming the former All-Ireland winning captain’s decision this evening.

The statement read: “Dublin GAA can confirm that Anthony Daly has ended his tenure as our senior hurling manager.

“Anthony served as Dublin manager for six years and during that period brought us back to the top table in the game.

“His loyalty to the cause, his expertise, his charisma and drive were key factors as Dublin climbed back up the rankings and moved forward from being one of the also-rans.

“Anthony leaves Dublin in a much healthier position having retained our Division 1A status earlier this year.

“While this year ended in disappointment, we enjoyed some incredible days during his term.

“At the start of May in 2011 Dublin captured their first NHL Division 1 title since 1939 and we will never forget the joy of being crowned Leinster SHC champions in 2013, ending a barren run in the province that stretched back 52 years.

“We wish to take this opportunity to thank Anthony and his management teams during his time for all their incredible work and dedication as well as the colour that his great personality brought to Dublin hurling.

“Dublin GAA wish Anthony and his selectors Ciaran Hetherton, Richie Stakelum, Shane Martin and the rest of his management team all the best for the future.”

Daly’s Dublin lost to All-Ireland finalists Tipperary in this year’s quarter-finals having fallen at the semi-final stage to Cork last year.

Former All-Ireland winning managers Liam Sheedy, Donal O’Grady and Michael ‘Babs’ Keating have previously been linked with the post should it become available.
