The body of a man has been discovered in a burning bin wagon parked near a music theatre.

Firefighters discovered the body in the skip of the vehicle when they were called to douse the blaze in a car park next to the Apollo Theatre in Ardwick, Manchester, in the early hours of today.

Police, who were called to the scene in Stockport Road at about 5.30am, believe they know the identity of the male aged in his 40s.

His family has been informed but formal identification has yet to take place.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later, said police.

Detective Inspector Dave Turner of Greater Manchester Police, said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation to establish the circumstances around his death.”
