The 38-year-old actress played hairdresser Fiona Middleton from 1992 to 1998 and would love to see a plot that would have all of Steve McDonald's [Simon Gregson] former love interests return to Weatherfield.

Asked if she would go back to the soap, she said: "Yeah, I think all Steve McDonald's women should come back one by one.

"I think Fiona would have had a baby by him so I'd come back with this 18-year-old child he'd never met."

Angela - who has children Tallulah, 10, and Melissa, seven, with husband Jason Milligan - admitted she lost a lot of confidence after struggling to find work last year, but is delighted to have landed a role as DS Lizzie Maddox in crime drama 'Lewis'.

She told Closer magazine: "I was out of work for a year from 2012 to 2013 and I hated it.

"It really knocked my confidence. It was hard though I did get to spend loads of time with the kids. Eventually, I made my West End debut in 'One Man, Two Guvnors' [last September] and then 'Lewis' came along and now my career's where I want it."
