Supersub Leacy rescues tie for Wexford

Cork 1-9 Wexford 1-9

Una Leacy came off the bench to rescue Wexford with a dramatic injury-time goal at Semple Stadium today to ensure a replay of their Liberty Insurance senior camogie semi-final against Cork next Saturday.

It looked like Katriona Mackey’s goal mid-way through the first half would decide this very tight affair but Leacy made no mistake after tremendous work from Katrina Parrock to deny Cork.

Jenny O’Leary did have a chance to snatch it for the Leesiders late on from a difficult free tight to the sideline but her effort drifted wide.

Both teams utilised an extra defender as the emphasis was placed on not conceding. Having said that, neither side will be happy with their shooting as they racked up the wides.

The six yellow cards issued by Alan Lagrue bore testament to the competitiveness and intensity of the affair though.

Ursula Jacob’s point was the only score of the game when Mackey took a pass from the excellent Angela Walsh to beat Wexford goalkeeper, Mags D’Arcy.

It was 1-3 to 0-3 at half time and Wexford did reduce the margin to the minimum with points from Jackie Quigley and Leacy.

Points from Jenny O’Leary and Mackey restored the goal advantage for Cork though and that’s what was between them when Leacy made her dramatic intervention to ensure a second bite of the cherry for Wexford.
