A teenage boy has been killed in a hit-and-run accident in north Dublin.

A man has been arrested in connection with the crash.

The young pedestrian was hit by a car on the R139 near Belcamp Park in Coolock at around 9.30pm last night.

He was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí say the car involved in the collision failed to stop or remain at the scene.

A car was seized by Gardaí a short time later, nearby.

A man aged in his mid-20s was later arrested in connection with the investigation.

He is currently detained at Finglas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The R139 was closed for a period of time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Coolock Garda Station on 01 6664200, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda station.

Gardaí are also appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist lost his life in a crash on the Hartstown Road in Dublin yesterday evening.

In the North, a man in his 30s died following a single-vehicle crash in Randalstown

Police say the incident happened just after midnight and a examination of the scene has been carried out.
