Zabaleta furious that Costa avoided a red card

Man City’s Pablo Zabaleta has apologised for his sending off yesterday after two bookable offences, but is adamant that Diego Costa should have also seen red.

Zabaleta was sent off in the second half of City's match against Chelsea yesterday, with the game still scoreless.

He was already on a yellow card when he tackled Costa in the 66th minute and received a second yellow. Costa was also booked.

The Argentine defender took to Twitter in the aftermath of the game. He first apologised for his own red card:

He then posted a second tweet which included a picture of Costa clearly holding Zabaleta by the neck, and said, “However after seeing this image I can’t believe that Diego Costa remained on the pitch.”

The match ended in a draw, with goals from Andre Schurrle and Frank Lampard cancelling each other out.

Zabaleta will serve a one-match ban for the sending-off.
