The Simon Community has said the Government's plan to end longterm homelessness by 2016 is now unachievable.
Simon is renewing calls for an increase in the rent supplement and in the amount of emergency accommodation to help tackle the growing crisis.
The Dublin Simon Community says more than 1,400 people are forced into emergency accommodation every night, not including children or those in hotels.
Sam McGuinness of the Simon Community in Dublin said: "We're looking for focus to be put on rapid response around accommodation.
"The 2014 target for 1,100 tenancies in Dublin…has been reduced by 30% because of the complete collapse in the private rented and social-housing markets and there's no additional housing to replace this coming on-stream."
