Two detained after armed Wexford bank robbery and carjackings

Two men have been arrested after an armed robbery, a carjacking and an attempted carjacking in Co Wexford.

Two masked men attempted to rob the Permanent TSB in Gorey shortly before 1pm this afternoon, with what is believed to be a handgun, but they fled empty handed after the panic alarm was activated.

Gardaí chased their black Fiat Punto - driven by a third raider - out the Arklow Road, where the men hijacked a Toyota Corolla at Kilmurry Cross.

Two of the men were caught by Gardaí as they tried to hijack another car, one of the men was pepper sprayed and a firearm was recovered in a field nearby.

One Garda received minor injuries in the incident.

The Garda helicopter is still searching for one of the men, with the other two, who are in their 20s, being held at Enniscorthy and Gorey Garda Stations.
