Two killed, eight injured, in fire on Mexico offshore oil platform

A fire that erupted on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico killed two workers and injured eight.

The state oil company Petroleos Mexico said the fire on the Abkatun A platform off the coast of the southern state of Campeche was brought under control and the installation was never abandoned.

It said one Pemex employee and a worker for a contractor died in the blaze.

Six of the injured were admitted to hospital and two were treated and released.

Pemex said the fire began in an area of compression equipment but has not given any information on the cause.
