Family's emergency accommodation 'causing concern for son's health'

Inner City Helping Homeless support workers were presented today with photos of the conditions inside of a B&B where a family is staying in emergency accommodation.

The mother, father and young son prefer not to be named but have said their single room accommodation is 'causing concern for their son's health and that they are afraid to complain on fear of being put back out on the street.'

This is allegedly the only B&B that could be found for them that would accept a Dublin City Council emergency accommodation payment.

Today Anthony Flynn ICHH CEO spoke with the family after viewing the situation.

He said: "This is an absolute travesty, that anyone in 2016 could be subjected to these living conditions is unbelievable. And to be in fear to complain is just unimaginable.

"I have previously called for proper regulation and licensing around hostel, B&B accommodation to no avail. The photos speak for themselves, it is totally unacceptable. This poor family should not have to endure hardship of this level."

"The DRHE pay good money for these accommodation units and to say that those that are receiving payment to accommodate homeless families are treating families in such a manner is intolerable.

"I am today requesting a full review from the DRHE on emergency accommodation units across the city and asking for intervention from senior management. I am also reiterating my call for the Minister to intervene and return to work."
