Kenny calls on Fine Gael to move on from McNulty affair
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told the Fine Gael that it is time to move on from the John McNulty affair and focus on the next election.
As the issue dominated tonight's gathering, Finance Minister Michael Noonan also told Fine Gael TDs and Senators that they need to concentrate their minds on the economy and the budget.
It was the first time that Enda Kenny sat down with his TDs and Senators since the McNulty controversy erupted 10 days ago.
From the start critics of him were effectively put on the back foot, with what has been described as a 'stormer' of a speech from Michael Noonan.
The finance minister warned the TDs and Senators that they need to focus on the economy and the budget which is just 13 days away.
Some of the outspoken members such as Waterford TD John Deasy, Cavan Monaghan TD Seán Conlan and Senator Hildegarde Naughton criticised the handling of the nomination of John McNulty and his appointment to the board of IMMA.
However up to a dozen more TDs and Senators have spoken up that the party needs to draw a line under this and move on, and some were very critical of Seán Conlon's media appearance last week when he compared Enda Kenny to Charlie Haughey.
The Taoiseach himself has been listening to the contributions and added that after tonight they need to move on and focus on the next election.
