One in five Dublin non-property owners plans to buy new home this year

One in five of all non-property owners in Dublin plans to buy a home in the next 12 months, according to a new poll.

The Behaviour and Attitudes poll carried out on behalf of Today FM and the Sunday Independent also found that one in 10 people in the whole country between the ages of 30 and 39 lives at home with his or her parents.

The poll also found that 37% of people live in private rental accommodation and fewer than one in 10 in the 30-39 age group around the country is currently able to buy his or her own house.

Meanwhile, more than half of 30- to 39-year-olds believe the proposed new Central Bank mortgage lending regulations will make it more difficult for them to buy.

The Central Bank Commission will decide on the new mortgage rules on Tuesday, with the preferred option now a 15% mortgage deposit, rising by 1% each year over the next five years.
