Davis: Bond films 'outdated'

Warwick Davis wants to be the next James Bond because he thinks the movies are "outdated".

The 44-year-old actor - who is three-and-a-half feet tall - would love to do away with the stereotypes associated with the lead role by playing the titular character in the next motion picture, and admits he has always dreamed of portraying a spy on the big screen.

Speaking at the finale of Britain's Biggest Pub Tour at the final stop of the 614-pub tour at the Slug and Lettuce in London's Tower Bridge, he told BANG Showbiz: "Personally, I think Bond is outdated.

"I'd like to see someone like myself play James Bond. I've always wanted to play a spy.

"When you think of Bond he's a fairly kind of stereotypical cliché kind of guy so let's throw those ideas out the window and have someone unlikely."

Warwick - who portrayed the Ewok Wicket in 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi' - joked he would be the ideal star to play Bond because nobody would ever think he was a spy.

He added: "No one would suspect a thing, they're looking out for a certain type of person.

"I like the idea of gadgets and I've always really imagined that Bond was really the frontman but there's really someone like myself who is under the table, behind the potted plant.

"He's doing the real work and Bond is kind of taking all the credit, getting the girl and there's someone like myself who's doing the hard work."

At the event, Warwick presented the Giant Pledge Passport which has toured the country and been signed by every pub manager, to Toby Smith, CEO of Stonegate Pub Company.

A total of £275,000 has been raised for Variety, the Children's Charity through the efforts of all the pubs, their staff and customers on the tour.
