Coveney confirms all Irish troops in Syria are safe

The Defence Minister Simon Coveney has said all of Ireland's troops stationed in the Golan Heights region on the Syrian-Israeli border are safe.

It comes after over 40 UN observer mission troops were captured by Syrian rebels at a border crossing yesterday.

Coveney added he will review the future use of Irish troops in the region, however he will not withdraw any who are currently there.

He also confirmed he will not stop the deployment of 130 defence forces members to Golan Heights next month.
