Restaurants will be forced to display calories on menus under new proposals.

The legislation would make it compulsory for restaurants to display the calorie count beside the price - or use a traffic light system where red would be high calorie and green low calorie.

According to the Irish Daily Mail, Health Minister Simon Harris said that he plans to publish the legislation by the end of 2019 as part of the government's obesity action plan.
