In a statement, the Wallabies say the damage was caused accidentally, and not by a member of staff acting in frustration following the loss.

The statement reads: "We have received many queries and comments in relation to the incident at Aviva Stadium on Saturday night, after the Wallabies loss to Ireland.

"We value feedback from our fans and want to keep you in the loop so here’s what happened...

"One of the Wallabies support staff members accidentally opened a door the wrong way when going into the change room.

"A bolt from the door’s hinge went into the wall and created a small hole. We immediately notified venue management and have offered to help with any repair costs.

"Any suggestion that this was a player or member of staff acting angrily after losing the game isn’t true."
