Police in America and the UK have dismantled a crime ring which bought tickets for concerts and sports events using other people's money.

Thieves hacked into the website StubHub, which allows users to resell tickets they no longer need.

Six people have been charged in the US over the scam, while three other suspects were arrested in London and one in Toronto.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Junior said the scam amounted to "a criminal scheme in which more than 1,600 StubHub user accounts were compromised and used to purchase thousands of tickets."

"Those tickets were re-sold and the proceeds were laundered through a global network of accomplices," he said.
