Children rescued after bus crash in Tyrone

Children from a special needs school were involved in a road accident yesterday when their school bus was in a crash with another vehicle.

The minibus was travelling along the Knockmany Road before the accident at the junction with the Ballymagowan Road between Augher and Clogher in Co Tyrone.

Pictures taken from the scene show the school minibus was left on its roof in the garden of a house, the other vehicle was driven into a hedge.

Police said the crash happened at about around 3.30pm and there were no serious injuries reported at the time.

Emergency Services, including the Air Ambulance, were sent to the scene.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) said they were called after reports of a two-vehicle collision.

"NIAS despatched one paramedic officer, two rapid response paramedics, one basics doctor and two emergency ambulance crews to the scene. The charity Air Ambulance was also tasked to the incident."

The BBC reported the bus was taking a number of children home from Sperrinview Special School in Dungannon.

An Education Authority (EA) spokesman said: "EA can confirm that one of its buses was involved in a road traffic collision in County Tyrone and that there are no reports of any serious injuries.

"We will provide support to those involved as required".

The Southern Health Trust confirmed three men were in Craigavon Area Hospital with injuries described as "stable", and were expected to be discharged on Wednesday night.

A number of the children involved in the crash were also taken to hospital for a check-up but were discharged shortly afterwards.
