Hunnam set for lead in Ritchie blockbuster

Charlie Hunnam will play King Arthur.

The 'Sons Of Anarchy' star is said to have been picked by the film's director Guy Ritchie to play the legendary figure in the upcoming blockbuster 'Knights Of The Round Table: King Arthur'.

According to Deadline, no contracts have been signed just yet, although it is thought that Warner Bros is hoping to create a franchise that will last for six planned films.

If the 34-year-old actor takes on the part he may be reunited with his 'Pacific Rim' co-star Idris Elba, who is up for the part of Merlin.

Meanwhile, Charlie famously pulled out of playing Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of E.L. James's erotic novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey'.

The British actor was left "heartbroken" following his exit from the long-anticipated movie and insists he found it difficult not being able to play the character which Jamie Dornan later took on.

He previously said: "I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn't have taken it on in the first place.

"When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it's heartbreaking not to be able to play him [...] It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life."

Hunnam is keen to see Dornan's portrayal of Grey when the movie hits

the big screen.

He added: "If they invite me to the premiere, I will go and see it there. "If not, I'll go and buy some tickets on opening night."

His decision to pull out of the movie came as a surprise to fans as he had gushed about how excited he was to be cast in the blockbuster alongside Dakota Johnson, who plays his love interest Anastasia Steele, weeks before the announcement.
