Shortlist for European Player of the Year award includes four Irish players

Tadgh Beirne is one of four Irish players nominated for the European Player of the Year award.

The Scarlets lock, who is bound for Munster, joins his future provincial team-mate Conor Murray on the list which also has Johnny Sexton and Tadgh Furlong representing Ireland on the 15-man shortlist.

The inclusion of Scott Fardy and Isa Nacewa means Leinster have four players on the list, a just reward for their impressive Champions Cup run which has seen them earn a 100% win record on their way to qualifying for the quarter-finals.

Owen Farrell of Saracens is also on the list hoping to retain the accolade when it is announced after the Champions Cup final in Bilbao on Saturday, May 12.

There are eight clubs in all represented in the nominations, and the list will be reduced to five in April after the Champions Cup semi-finals after a public vote and the choice of the judging panel.

People can vote for their choice on ChampionsCupRugby.com.
