Bolt wins Jamaican trials

Usain Bolt coasted to 100m victory at the Jamaican trials in 9.94 seconds but Asafa Powell could not book his place at the World Championships as he finished seventh.

With Yohann Blake absent because of a hamstring injury, Kemar Bailey-Cole in 9.98secs and Nickel Ashmeade at 9.99s were Bolt’s closest challengers at the Jamaican National Championships as Powell, who ran 10.22s, and Nesta Carter both failed to make the squad for the worlds.

Bolt will be looking for redemption in Moscow next year after he was disqualified from the final in Daegu for a false start. Blake, who took advantage to win the title in 2011, qualifies automatically.

Olympic champion Bolt’s time was considerably slower the Tyson Gay, who won the American trials in a world-leading 9.75s.

Kerron Stewart topped a weakened field in the women’s race in 10.94s.

Two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who has already qualified for the worlds, was absent, as was Veronica Campbell-Brown, who recently returned a positive drugs test.

Campbell-Brown denies any wrongdoing.
