The well-dressed ladies will be notably absent from the Galway Races today, but the main attraction will still play out on the track.

The Guinness Galway Hurdle will set off at 6.45pm and Willie Mullins will be aiming for his fourth win in the event.

Mullins' Butter me up Buttercup is the favourite, having run well in Cheltenham earlier in the year, but an upset can't be ruled out in one of the most competitive hurdles of the year.

Tony Martin's Tudor City, the winner of last year's Galway Hurdle will also be in contention to bag the €300,000 prize.

Although a win in this race has eluded Gordon Elliott so far, he comes into this year's race with a strong hand running Felix Desjy and Aramax.

Owned by JP McManus, Aramax will be the Limerick-man's ticket to claiming the double, having claimed Wednesday's Galway Plate with Early Doors.

This afternoon will have eight races, the first being the Guinness Novice Hurdle at 4.45pm.
