Sunday Game anchor Des Cahill introduced a clearly elated Dessie Dolan, who he declared got very excited during this epic game at headquarters yesterday.

“Firstly I am delighted for the supporters and but mainly for the players who I am thrilled for. I was part of the squad last summer and I know how hard all these players work”, said Dolan.

“Former manager Paul Bealin told the players that they should take a good look in the mirror at themselves when he was replaced last summer.

“The scenes at the final whistle were incredible and our supporters have suffered at the hands of Meath for many years. We’re certainly going to enjoy this one.

“The players had gained plenty of confidence after beating Louth and Wexford. John Heslin was an inspirational figure out there today kicking points with both feet and showing great leadership.”

Winning manager Tom Cribbin never lost faith with his players despite facing an impossible task when they trailed Meath by 10 points near the end of the first half.

“We had the belief that we could finish very strong. Our players have a strong fitness level, they’re very young and we knew they would last out the game really well.”
