Mulholland steps down as Galway football manager

Galway GAA confirmed this morning that Alan Mulholland will not continue as the county’s football manager for another season.

Work and family commitments were cited as the reason he would not continue.

The Galway County Board said Mulholland has decided “not to exercise his option of another year as Galway Senior Football Manager for 2015”.

Mulholland has been in charge of the senior squad since 2012 and has overseen a period of major change and renewal within the county. The Tribesmen’s 2014 championship campaign ended earlier this month with defeat to Kerry in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

Prior to his role with the senior team Mulholland had spent years working with Galway teams at U16, Minors and U21 level.

Speaking on gaa.ie, Galway chairman Noel Treacy praised Mulholland’s contribution to the county.

“Alan Mulholland has made a dual contribution to Galway Football, both on and off the field,” said Treacy.

“After a distinguished playing career, he has given selflessly of himself for the past decade to the cause of Galway Football. We sincerely thank Alan, his wife Mary and the entire Mulholland family for their great contribution to Galway Football over the years and we look forward to their continuing involvement in the future.”
