Christian Brothers College Cork completed the double over Ard Scoil Ris in today’s first-round games of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Cup at Lansdowne.
In the senior game, Christians emerged victorious on a 34-7 score line and the junior team, holders of the title, produced the goods in a one sided second half to win by 25 points to 3.
It wasn’t always that easy in either game with Ard Scoil proving to be dogged opponents, particularly the visiting senior outfit.
Christians held a distinct 20-7 advantage at half time but had to wait until the last four minutes to give themselves more breathing space, Ard Scoil spending lots of time attacking in between.
Still, the winners managed five tries in an impressive display of finishing; Thomas Downes, Ben Roche, Eoin Monahan and Ronan Barry all crossed for tries and Rob Hedderman added another as well as kicking three conversions and a penalty.
Impressive Ard Scoil captain Rys Tucker got his side’s only try and Darragh O’Gorman kicked the conversion.
In the junior game, Eoin Birchall and Patrick O’Hara each scored a brace of tries for CBC, while George Coomber kicked a penalty and a conversion. Christopher Guerin kicked a penalty for the losers.
