Former Derry All-Star Kevin McCloy has thanked the “life-saving efforts” of medical staff who assisted him after he collapsed in a club game last week and lost consciousness.

The former Derry captain was playing for Lavey in the Derry SFC against Magherafelt when he collapsed last Wednesday night.

Thankfully, the former Derry star regained consciousness having been taken to Altnagelvin hospital.

Yesterday, Lavey released a statement on behalf of McCloy and his wife, Cathy, which read:

“Kevin and Cathy would like to thank all the physio’s, doctors and paramedics for their quick thinking and life saving efforts at the scene. It was these actions along with the defibrillator that ultimately saved Kevin’s life.

We would also like to thank everyone for their prayers and support over the last week.

Kevin’s condition is improving thanks to the excellent care he is receiving at Altnagelvin Hospital.

We would ask that everyone would support the Cormac Trust at Thursday’s match, in whatever way they can.

Lastly, good luck to the boys on Thursday night.”

The match, which was called off last week, has since been rescheduled again to Friday evening due to a bereavement in Magherafelt, according to Lavey’s website.

Entrance to the game will be free with donations accepted for the Cormac Trust which was set up following the sudden death of Tyrone’s prodigious young star Cormac McAnallen in 2004.
